Greetings! I’m Cathy, a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience in Human Resources. Although I cherished my career, the limitations of my role as a Director left me feeling disconnected from individuals, prompting a desire to assist them in uncovering their true selves and finding fulfillment in their careers.
Upon leaving my last position, I embarked on a new journey as a certified professional coach. Merging my extensive background in Human Resources with proven coaching success principles, I assume the roles of a success strategist, partner, and personal advocate for my clients.
Three decades ago, when I first stepped into the realm of Human Resources, the workplace was vastly different. From typewriters and white-out in the 80s to the advent of PCs and email in the 90s, technological advancements gradually transformed office dynamics. As efficiency increased, workloads expanded, and the 9-5 routine persisted.
The early 2000s introduced video conferencing, reducing the need for travel but intensifying office commitments. Amid technological progress and instant communication, companies prioritized asset security. By the mid-2010s, political influences further divided the workforce, overshadowing the ‘human’ aspect of resources.
The onset of COVID-19 brought unprecedented chaos. While remote work became a reality for some, not all had that option. Corporations, despite global uncertainties, continued demanding full workdays. As we strived to return to normalcy, I sensed a growing need to be a voice for workers – to truly listen to their needs.
This realization fueled my decision to transition from HR to coaching. Despite my love for HR, something was missing. I aspired to bridge the gap between corporations and employees, advocating for the true assets of any successful company – its people. Whether supporting the burnt-out individual seeking change, empowering a CEO to rally their staff, or guiding those ready to level up without a clear path, my mission as a professional and personal coach is to facilitate your journey to becoming the person you deserve to be.
Let’s embark on a transformative path together – I’m here to help you “bee moved” towards your personal and professional fulfillment.

Getting Back to Work

In my last post, I wrote about what made me make the transition from HR professional to professional (and certified!) coach. Times have definitely changed in the workplace-some for the better. You know what hasn’t really changed? How hard it is for moms (or really anyone) to return to work after the dreaded “employment gap”.

When I started my new venture, I teamed up with Samantha Oughtred of SAM+PR to help me with my branding and website. She told me her passion was to help women (especially mothers) to become financially stable and was in the process of obtaining her non-profit status for The Mom Net.

Just as I received my certification for coaching, The Mom Net received its charitable status. Sam and I knew it was kismet. Creating The Mom Net’s first workshop together to help moms get back to work is exactly how we wanted to each start our new ventures.

In this workshop, we cover getting over the guilt of returning to work, writing your resume, creating momentum, and getting in the right mindset to attain your goals.

What better way to kick off my new career than to connect with some of the very people I yearned to help during my 30 years in Human Resources? I cannot wait to connect with these mothers to help, as The Mom Net’s mission is to empower women to reclaim themselves and ignite their passions beyond “mom”.

About Me: Why I Became a Certified Coach

About 30 years ago, I started my career in Human Resources. While I truly loved my career, over time, society made some pretty monumental changes. In the 80’s, we had typewriters and white-out. The 90’s brought forward the use of the PC and email, which made working in an office a bit more efficient. Efficiency brought broader workloads. We could communicate more effectively, so what once took hours, could now be completed instantly. We still had to fill those 9-5 hours.

In the early 2000’s, video conferencing entered the workplace. For those that traveled for work, this meant travel could be reduced as meeting in person was no longer a priority. Workloads again expanded, as more time could be spent in the office rather than on a flight.

With all of the technological advances and instant communication abilities, companies began to prioritize security of assets. By the mid 2010’s, politics entered into the workforce-further dividing the line between “blue collar” and “white collar”. Corporations became so guarded of their assets, that the “human” part of the resources seemed to dwindle.

When COVID hit, everything went into complete chaos. We were “lucky” to have all of the technological advancements in place so that many could work remotely, however, that wasn’t a possibility for all. And even so, corporations were still demanding full work days, despite fear of the unknown across the globe.

Once we started “getting back to normal”, I began to feel the need to provide a voice for the workers. Was anyone listening to their needs? Think about your own life. Who has REALLY listened to YOU?

So that’s when I made the choice. Like I said, I loved working in HR, but something was missing. I wanted to be able to bridge the gap between the corporation and the employees. I wanted to advocate for the people that worked, as they are truly the real assets to any successful company. I want to help the person who is burned out and ready for a change. I want to help the CEO rally his staff to bring them to the next level. I want to help those who are ready to level-up but have no idea what to do next.

So that is why I have chosen to be a professional and personal coach. I want to help you “bee moved” to become the person you deserve to be.

Grandma is the word that speaks to the most special place in my childhood memories. And when I think of Christmas, my grandma was the most important part of my life growing up. I had grandmothers on both sides of my parents’ families but spent the most time with my dad’s mother. This is the Italian side of my family. When I think of her, I think of love and abundance, care and joy, adventure and storytelling, and wonderful food and service.

I called her Grandma Jojo; her name was Josephine. She taught me to sing “Jesus Loves Me” and she loved to hear it sung. More importantly though – she wanted me to know that Jesus loved me. She brought to life all that I learned about God as a child. She was faithful and kind and loving. Family was very important to her.  She had a twinkle in her eye whenever she looked at me. She had a special way of making me feel seen and heard.

My Grandma Jojo lived a life of service to people in need, service to family members, neighbors, the elderly, the hungry, the list goes on. She and her sister, my great aunt, cooked and served Meals on Wheels for decades. During Christmas time she loved to gather as many people as possible. We ate around a ping pong table where we gathered in the basement of her small bungalow in Cicero IL. Sometimes she had so many guests that there were tables set on the main floor and even the upstairs apartment where my great aunt and uncle lived. Grandma Jojo exuded gratitude for these gatherings and always had an abundance of love and food in her home during Christmas, and on Sunday nights in general, as we went to her house for dinner on Sundays for much of my childhood.

She was the youngest of several siblings and I remember many Italian relatives; some spoke Italian only and some spoke English, but the words weren’t important. There were cousins, aunts and uncles and friends who came and they just loved us because they knew we were her grandchildren. Several of these relatives brought my sisters and me gifts, often handmade crochet, and special candies every year. She took us on walks through her Italian neighborhood and we often visited neighbors. Everybody was always happy to see her and her grandchildren. We were treated with love and celebrated not because of who we were – but because we were hers.
